          Truman State University Baldwin Hall

CAPT was contacted by some students from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri for an investigation of Baldwin Hall on the college campus. The students also asked to document this investigation on film for a project they were doing on the same building, CAPT agreed to this request, looking on it as positive media exposure for the team.

CAPT again met at our Co-Founder's home to discuss the case at approximately 1800 hrs. Members sat and worked on a plan for the large site and decided that we would have to see the site to finalize the plan. The team departed Lisa's home at approximately 1900 hrs and arrived in Kirksville at 2100 hrs.

Truman State University is a large and historic university specializing in liberal arts and sciences. The college was founded by Joseph Baldwin in 1867 and was re-named to reflect the only president to come from Missouri, Harry Truman. In 1924 fire destroyed Baldwin Hall and it has since been re-built with limestone from the original build to where it stands today. The original site of Baldwin Hall in now the campus “quad” area. Some stories about Truman State University include the Ghost of Centennial Hall who is named “Joan”, “Charlotte” and a small boy have haunted Grim Hall for 70 yrs now and “Gina” watches over the women of Ryle. Many other college campus stories are also told at Truman.

CAPT met with the students from the journalism and film department to discuss the claims of activity and to perform a walk through of Baldwin Hall. The students, Jimmy and Chelsy, were very receptive and personable with CAPT and we felt welcomed from the start. On the walk through Jimmy and Chelsy pointed out the areas where the claims of activity have been reported.

Jimmy and Chelsy showed CAPT the main theater area. People have claimed to have seen a figure on the stage as well as on the balcony and the exit and entrance ramps. The figures that have been sighted have no distinguishing features other than being human in shape and gray in color. Other claims include voices being heard in this area and two chairs in the audience area being moved. The students had taped off the chair legs in order to get the movement on tape but no movement was detected. The second area of activity was downstairs in the basement where the costume changing room and female bathroom are located. The claims here include the sound of voices, a figure, and a barbers chair that moved. The barbers chair was formerly located in the bathroom, but has since been moved to a storage area, so we were unable to verify this claim. .

CAPT was told of three spirits in this area:

  1. Max an ex janitor for the college

  2. PJ a small boy

  3. Zoey a small girl

It is reported that Max enjoys tapping on the water pipes and walls and the children have no real specific actions other than just being there.

CAPT members then sat on the stage to discuss a plan and it was decided to split the investigation into two parts, part one taking place in the main theater area and part two in the basement, due to the size of the investigation site. Equipment was set up for part one and the investigation started.

CAPT split into two groups as CAPT usually does to cover the area in a more efficient way. We had one group on the stage area and a second group in the balcony area. After some EVP and photo sessions were completed the two groups converged into the audience area for the final step of the first part of this investigation. The main floor investigation lasted approximately 3 hours.

The next step was the basement of Baldwin Hall. The equipment was moved and re-set up, then the second part of the investigation started.

The main focus in the basement was the costume changing room and the female restroom. CAPT again split into two groups to cover the large investigation area. The first team entered a maintenance room while the second team stayed in the costume room. EVP and photo sessions were conducted and the two groups converged in the costume room where the investigation lasted approx 2 more hours.

Some interesting EVP's were obtained and are listed below along with CAPT team members personal experiences.

NIKI: Niki had very bad feelings in the costume room and in the balcony area where she observed a shadow figure on the entrance/exit ramp to the balcony area.

LISA: Shadow figure in same area as Niki in the balcony area.
